Trained as an actress, Ghyslaine studied at the National Theatre School of Canada and attended the Warren Robertson Workshops and the Banff Centre of Fine Arts. This may well explain why she is known for her skills at directing actors. She directed the shorts Aux voleurs! and Pendant ce temps…, which won the Festival Grand Prize at the Stony Brook Film Festival as well as being invited at the Sundance Film Festival. It garnered nominations at both the Jutra and the Gemini Awards. Then followed the thriller The Five of Us, which got her the nod again for Excellence in Directing at the Stony Brook Film Festival. In 2004, The Five of Us opened Montreal’s World Film Festival where it won again, this time for Best Artistic Contribution and the Canadian Public Award. Ghyslaine successfully tried her hand at comedy with A Family Secret, which confirmed her innate sense for storytelling. Ghyslaine’s signature way of taking on human issues, whether for comedy or drama, is always touching. This may have a lot to do with her fine understanding of acting.
She is slated to direct a family movie that delves into Quebec lore. The script is penned by Ginette Boulanger and Gilles Brien and will be produced by Christal Films.
Also, Ghyslaine is to direct the next EGM Productions film written by Nardo Castillo. It should go into production this summer. And she is in development with long time collaborator Martin Girard on a fantasy feature film.
